Self-care isn’t just a trend, it’s a vital and important practice to maintain your mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Taking time for yourself helps recharge your energy, reduce stress and just makes you feel better! Despite what some may say, it’s not a selfish thing to take care of yourself and it doesn’t matter what season it is, there is always something you can do in your self-care practice.
Making sure you are sleeping and prioritizing sleep and rest helps to recharge your mind, body, and spirit. I try to take a 20-minute break every day and snooze, or if I’m not sleepy, I will just lay there cuddling with my dog. Even that short period of time makes me feel better.
You can engage in activities either outside or even inside if the weather isn’t great! One fun way is to just dance. Put some music on and as the saying goes “dance like no one is watching.” Or take a short walk outside and listen to nature.
Make sure to hydrate – keeping hydrated is important at all times as it helps prevent brain fog, muscle aches, and more!
Digital detox is another key way to regulate your self-care. We are constantly being bombarded between computers at work, cell phones with news apps, game apps, social media, etc. We sit and doom-scroll for hours and it’s not healthy. Close your computers and put your cell phone in another room to fully enjoy the moment with whatever you are doing.
Practicing your self-care doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive. Even just a few minutes a day of intentional self-care can make a difference and you’ll feel better for it. Try to make it a habit – start small and choose a simple thing you enjoy. Set realistic goals and take baby steps toward that goal. Listen to your mind and body and make adjustments as necessary. See how quickly you start to notice the difference!
