Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a special day to express gratitude, affection, love, and genuine appreciation for the woman that brought you into this world, the woman (or women) who helped raised you, second moms, bonus moms, fur baby moms, aunties, grandmas, sisters, besties, and more!

My own mom is my best friend; she was everybody’s mom growing up. My friends always wanted to come to our house and they would open up to my mom when they couldn’t talk to their own. That was just Mom and how she was.  Of course we had our moments as all mothers and daughters do during the teen years, but we made it through that time period and we’ve relied on each other through the years through the good and the bad.

My mom was diagnosed with dementia within the last two years after multiple health issues. She’s safe and cared for and on my last visit with her, I spent hours in her world, following her lead and I’ve never felt closer to her than in those moments where it was just the two of us. Even though she won’t realize that it’s Mother’s Day, she will still be celebrated with love.

Some ideas for celebrating that special woman/women in your life are:

-              A Family Picnic

-              A DIY Spa Day

-              A Handwritten Letter

-              A Special Photo Album of Family Memories

-              Flowers or a plant that will continue to grow and remind them of you.

Most importantly though, spend time together if possible. Make memories and create little moments like photographs to look back on.

Happy Mother’s Day from one mom to another.
