Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I first launched L’Aura Botanicals!
My journey with aromatherapy started through a Scottish auntie and it became a lifelong passion since that first introduction. I became a Certified, and then a Registered Aromatherapist and continue to learn anything and everything I can about aromatherapy.
I made my very first bar of soap in my kitchen with a Lavender blend I created, and although its aroma was great, my first attempt was a disaster! The glycerin I sourced wasn’t the best quality so the soap ended up really dry. I thought incorporating dried Lavender buds would be pretty only for them to turn the soap brown and look like there were little bugs in it.
But I kept practicing and experimenting with aromas, colors, and different recipes. My second soap was not only gorgeous, but the blend I had created with notes of Patchouli, Lavender, Sandalwood, and Black pepper was amazing! The only problem was that I had gotten so wrapped up in blending and the creative process that I didn’t quite pay attention to the cost. Turned out, that bar of soap ended up costing $98.00! Needless to say, I had a little more work to do before being able to launch the business - but I still have that exact bar of soap all these years later.
I choose April 1st - April Fools Day - to launch the business back in 2015 based on the first card in a tarot deck “The Fool” because I felt like I was jumping off a cliff into the unknown without a clue of what I was getting myself into. As the years have gone by, I’ve studied more, earned my degree in Business, and continued to grow L’Aura Botanicals. I’ve opened an Etsy shop and launched my own website. L’Aura Botanicals has been featured in gift guides, subscription boxes, and published in magazines. Funnily enough, it wasn’t handcrafted soap that became our bestseller, but bath bombs which were a happy accident that came out of experimenting with the idea of toilet bombs.
Thousands of bath products later, I’m still humbled and honored that I get to help people with their special events and occasions or gifting and be the reason for a smile or moments of joy. One of my very first customers ordered a gift box for her bestie to celebrate the end of chemotherapy. I cried when I read the message and was honored that my products I had created were chosen for such an important event.
I genuinely love what I do. Ten years later and I still shout “thank you” every time I hear my phone chime when an order comes in. I’m so grateful I get to, in some way, be a part of spreading joy and kindness and sharing my love for aromatherapy with every order.
