I’ve always enjoyed crafting of different sorts, however my art obsession is a newer creative endeavor within the past couple of years after building Lego flower bouquets became too expensive!
Many years ago, I discovered a painting at a beach art fair which featured multiple 3D painted roses and fell in love with the piece. At some point, I had given it away and only recently remembered it, but the memory of that painting sparked my creativity and I started creating my own flower art with faux flowers.
At first, my type A personality prevented me from actually creating and enjoying the process until I realized that creating art isn’t about perfection or right or wrong– it’s about what calls to your soul. Once I broke that barrier, there was no holding back.
There is no rhyme or reason to what I create which is the beauty of it. An idea will come out of nowhere and sit with me until I bring it to life. I surprise myself sometimes because I will have an idea and as I start creating/painting/placing flowers, something else entirely appears and those end up being some of my favorite creations.
Nature tends to drive the inspiration for my art whether it is creating artwork with botanicals, acrylic paints, watercolors, or pens. Part of the fun is wandering Michael’s and picking out faux flowers from the floral section or the seasonal décor for my creations and finding just the right shade of paint to compliment the flowers and match the vision in my mind.
The color scheme I keep getting drawn to this season is dark and moody botanicals. Lots of deep reds and purple with accents of black, navy blue, and the occasional pop of rustic orange. Shimmering metallic paint has become my latest addition that adds a little bit of extra magic to the pieces I’ve created during the season of the witch.
My walls are filled with a chaotic kaleidoscope of colors, canvas sizes, and all sorts of flowers which never fails to bring me joy.
What calls to you in your art? Do you find inspiration from a specific source or are you inspired by anything and everything you come across?
