Resilience and Following Your Dreams

Resilience and Following Your Dreams

Taking a leap of faith and following a dream is not for the weak hearted. You know in your heart it’s the right thing, but there are so many moments of anxiety and doubt that come with making such a big decision. And those feelings don’t go away even once you’ve taken the leap. Resilience and perseverance are important qualities to have when it comes to navigating the journey that follows and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure I had them when I first decided I wanted to pursue aromatherapy and start a business. I have learned a lot through trial and error and built a thicker skin through launching my business, but there are still days when the insecurities hit hard and I have to remind myself that I’ve got this! I took the original leap in 2015, have slowly but surely built my business up, and am still here 11 years later!

One of the biggest things I’ve learned through the years that helps and strengthens my resilience is to make sure I find quiet time. It offers space for reflection, emotional and mental rest, and basically resets my batteries. Not only is that just good for my well being, but I often find at times that the quiet moments open the doors to new ideas that have been circulating around and around in my head.

Some of the ways I try and prioritize creating quiet moments are:

Practicing self-acceptance and developing a positive mindset.

- Setting realistic goals. You can make one large “to-do” list, but break it down to manageable pieces that don’t automatically overwhelm you.

- Practice self-care. (The irony is not lost on me that I sometimes need to remind myself to practice self-care in order to de-stress from the challenges of running a business that is based in self-care products!)

- Connect with family or friends who can offer guidance, encouragement, or even a good laugh.

With so much stress and noise in the world, making sure you have that quiet time can make it easier to face any challenges, whether they are part of daily life or part of running a business, with a clear and focused mentality.
