Long-lasting friendships have a quiet kind of beauty. They grow and stretch through time, distance, and all the unexpected turns life brings.
As we get older, our circles may become smaller. We may not see each other as often, but the connection still finds its way back through a simple message, a shared laugh, or a meme that says, “I’m still here.”
Even after my friend moved to another state and life became busy for both of us, the friendship never really faded. It simply settled into a different rhythm and didn’t have any pressure or expectations. It just was.
I was happy when she messaged me telling me she was coming back out here because she needed “girl time” and when she asked if I would be able to get together, of course I said yes!
When I lost my mom a few weeks later, she was the first person to reach out and hold space for me in my grief. In that moment, I was reminded that true friendship is not measured by how often we see each other, but by who shows up when our hearts are hurting.
She came out a week after my mom passed. I believe the universe had a hand in this, divine timing if you will. We went to the movies with my daughter, caught up, spent time at the beach, laughed so hard and fell back into the comfort of each other’s company as if no time had passed at all. I think it was exactly what we all needed and we found a slice of joy in an otherwise hard season.
Moments like that stay with me. They remind me how grateful I am for friendships that stay steady through distance, change, loss, and all the seasons that shape us.
