Sit quietly for a few minutes. Close your eyes and look inside to try and see what are you feeling at this current moment in time. Are you tense, sad, content, happy? Take an emotional inventory and think what feelings need to be nourished, if any, and then think about what you can do to move forward towards that emotion or mood?
Essential oils have the potential to soothe emotions, help guide us through not so good times, and can create a more positive uplifting emotional environment.
Some of the ways you can create an aromatic nourishing landscape for yourself by using essential oils are using a roll-on blend, diffusing essential oils in your space, spritzing a blend into the air, and/or taking a luxurious bath or shower. The next time you sit down to journal or meditate, turn to nature, light your favorite essential oil candle, or spritz that aroma spray in your space and take a deep breath. Had a stressful day (how many have we all had recently? LOL) and want to feel calm and relaxed? Take a bath with your favorite bath products. Turn out the lights and light a candle that compliments your bath products. Let yourself soak in the different aromas of calm and quiet.
When something smells good, you automatically take deeper breaths to keep inhaling the beautiful scent and taking deep breaths slows the nervous system and calms you.
Lavender is a popular essential oil to use for some calm and peace, but how about adding Peppermint which can also be calming and help clear that mental fog. You can try a blend with warm oils of Patchouli or Sandalwood which can bring comfort and grounding. If you’re feeling a little down in the dumps, try bringing citrus oils into your emotional scent repertoire for a brightening pick-me-up.
Make it a new health habit to check in with how you’re feeling and nourish yourself with the simple addition of aromatherapy and essential oils - your mind, body, and spirit will thank you for it.
