A Peek into the Apothecary

Collecting Knowledge

Collecting Knowledge

I’m a self-admitted complete nerd – I love reading and learning new things. One of my favorite sayings is “fill your library, collect knowledge.”

My parents made me read the classics when I was younger and always encouraged reading. I remember going to garage sales and getting bags of books full of a variety of subjects. Reading Calico Palace by Gwen Bristow is something that has stuck with me all these years later, learning about the California Gold Rush and history but in a fun way through fiction. I’ll dive down a rabbit hole after reading just a little blurb about something that sparks my interest and try to find out as much as I can on the subject.

The same goes for everything and anything to do with flowers, botanicals, emotional wellness, and aromatherapy. Whether it’s fiction books like The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister or The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, or non-fiction books about perfume houses and founders like Jo Malone or Anita Roddick (founder of The Body Shop), the more I read about botanicals, aromatherapy, and essential oils, the more passionate I become.

Some books I’d recommend reading if you want to be a total nerd like me and learn more about aromatherapy and scent are:

1.        Essence and Alchemy: A Book of Perfume by Mandy Aftel

2.        The Fragrant Mind by Valerie Ann Worwood

3.        Fragrant: The Secret Life of Scent by Mandy Aftel

4.        The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy by Salvatore Battaglia

5.        The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood

6.        Aromatics and Mental Health: A Holistic Approach to AromaPsychology by Jade Shutes

I’d love to hear what you think after reading any of these books or if you have any recommendations of your own - comment below!
